Hi there,
The Ideas for India conference is just a few days away. We’re delighted to announce that the Nigel Huddleston MP (Minister of State for International Trade) and Ruth Cadbury MP (Shadow Minister for International Trade) and Dame Nia Griffith MP (Shadow Minister for Exports) will all be attending. Ticket sales close next week.
We’re delighted to have participants from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations coming too.
Well done Member Rajesh Jain for being officially crowned a Coronation Champion. The Coronation Champions Awards recognise a diverse group of volunteers from different backgrounds and communities across the UK from a range of causes. They are awarded to exceptional volunteers like Rajesh, who will now be invited to celebrate with his fellow Champions at a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace with the Queen Consort.
India has one of the world’s largest collections of songs, music, dance, theatre, folk traditions, performing arts, rites and rituals, paintings and writings, forming its intanglible cultural heritage.
A country as diverse as India is symbolised by the plurality of its culture. At Bridge India, we are delighted to be taking an active part in promoting Indian art and culture. For example:
Welcome to our newest Member Baluji Shrivastav OBE. He is an Indian multi-instrumentalist who was blinded at eight months old and has become one of the world’s leading composers and sitar players. He has performed and recorded with some of the greatest tabla accompanists such as Anindo Chatterji and Ustad Fayaz Khan. He has worked with a wide variety of artists including Stevie Wonder, Coldplay, Massive Attack, Madness, Shakira, Malu, Boy George and Doves.
Our Ideas for India conference will feature an exclusive Bharat Mahotsav cultural evening from 4pm on Thursday 11 May led by Confluence and a delegation from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations including fashion designer Rina Dhaka.
The next day, we have an incredible carnatic music and dance performance from London-based Ragatip (see image above).
Member Santosh Bhanot is hosting an evening of Indian classical music on Sat 13 May from 7pm at the Peepul Centre in Leicester featuring tabla maestro Sanju Sahai, Dr Rajeeb Chakraborty on sarod, Kirpal Singh Panesar on tar shehnai, Pandit Ramesh Chandra on sitar, Ustad Kiranpal Singh on santoor, singer Priti Kaur artiste and Kathak dancer Jaymini Sanju Sahai. Also featuring ghazals by Anil Bhanot and dancer Andreea Monalisa Singh. More info here.
Before that, our Member Pop Artist Ketna Patel is hosting a classical music and art dinner soiree at her fantastically colourful home and art studio in Stanmore. Inspired by many years of famous soirees held at her Singapore studio, these evenings hosting poets, musicians, writers, film screenings etc have generated many long lasting friendships & collaborations across time zones and geography.
This soiree will feature the young and very talented Sarod maverick Abhishek Borkar from Pune, India. Abhishek is rapidly gaining recognition as one of India’s finest young sarod players.
Along with Abhishek will be his beautiful wife Saberi Misra. The daughter of Pt. Rajkumar Misra and Smt. Chandrima Misra, renowned musicians and gurus themselves, Saberi has been exposed to tabla and vocal music respectively, all her life, performing, training and moulding young minds herself.
And later in the Summer, we’re planning an exclusive cooking evening with Sarada Wong in London, a gourmet chef who uses only plant-based ingredients and makes food that’s good for the soul.
With our flagship Ideas for India conference just a few days ago, we’re delighted to have a wide range of partners join us from around the world, including leading advisory firm WBR Corp, Indian khadi, handloom weavers and artisan promoting focused NGO Confluence, leaders in automated proctoring Proctorio, interpretation, translation and transcription company Language Interpreters, the unique resort hotel Rutland Hall & Spa, fashion boutique Ayrela, blended aged rum brand MarlinSpike, global education and skill development company ISDC Global and others.
