BCU book launch, Meghalaya Chief Minister, faith engagment, AICTE MoU
Our flagship Ideas for India is just a week away.
Hi there,
The Ideas for India conference is just a few days away. We’re delighted to announce that the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma will also be joining us. Ticket sales close in the next two days.
This means we will have speakers and attendees from nearly 20 states in India and right across the political spectrum. We look forward to some excellent and productive discussions.
Ideas for India is part of the inaugural India Week®, which also features an exclusive dinner at the House of Commons and dinner with 120+ leading academics at Oxford. To find out more or to attend an of these other events, reply to this email.
Do India’s progressive parties need to do better to engage with the diaspora? Member Pratik Dattani writes exclusively here (or print edition here) a few weeks ago offering a view. The article mentions recognising faith communities as a force for good, which is also a key conclusion from the UK Government commissioned Bloom Review, an independent review into faith engagement.
The report finds faith is an ‘overriding force for good’ and government needs to improve its engagement with these groups. Based on 21,000 public responses, the report finds Sikh extremism and Hindu nationalism are emerging threats in the UK, that have grown whilst authorities have focused on other threats such as Islamic extremism.
